Mt Major - 5km hike 1.15hrs - Shepparton Vic - right next to Tallis Wines
Blog
G`Day,
If you have 2hrs to spare and you are in Shepparton Victoria, then head over to Mt Major for a cruisy 5km hike.
There are two ways up to the top, one via a boring access road and the second via a dedicated walking track - take the walking track, no point walking with traffic (although we doubt there would be too much traffic as this is `out of the way`).
Drive to a new carpark at the junction of Cashel Road and Ryans Road Mt Major, it`s a new carpark that has been created just for this walk.
The trial is very clearly defined and in great condition (it actually looked like a new trail recently cut), and is a gradual climb up straight from the carpark, the only down will be when you turn around to return. Don`t be worried, even though it is a climb there are plenty of places to rest and take in the view to the North.
When you reach the top you will be presented with 360 views of the entire area, and they are quite speccy to say the least. Also, because of it`s location the top has a number of communication towers, some of which a mega tall - I can only image someone will be eyeing them off to do a base jump if they haven`t already. Those dudes are crazy to the max.
Once you have absorbed as much as you can of the views it`s time to retrace your steps back down to the carpark for our next suggestion ...
...just around the corner is Tallis Wines ( 195 Major Plains Rd, Dookie VIC 3646) - you might as well reward yourself with a visit here. Great wines and great food AND great view from their restaurant windows (they also have a short walk on their property if we are not mistaken).
All up the hike was 5.2km and took us 1:15mins with plenty of photographs taken along the way.
As usual please be prepared whilst out there, it is a big hill and the weather can change, so be prepared : (follow this link to our "Running Gear` page: )
As usual, please follow this link to our Relive video of the hike, and please head over to our Youtube channel for more of our adventures:
